Choose a level. State is what this state provides everywhere. A county or city page adds its own level. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Who Counts as a Veteran in Indiana

MiscellaneousIndiana · State

Indiana has a code-wide definition of Hoosier veteran and a separate test in almost every program. Since July 1, 2026 most state programs shut out only discharges on a list: court-martial, a discharge taken to avoid one, and discharges for security offenses, serious misconduct or violent and sexual offenses. The property tax benefits still say honorable, and the licence designation and the cemetery say other than dishonorable.

Most programs exclude only the discharges on the relief fund list. IC 1-1-4-5(b) and IC 10-17-12-8.1(2), as amended by P.L.94-2026: court-martial, discharge in lieu, security offenses, willful or persistent misconduct, sexual or violent offenses, and the Commission's disallowable separation codes.
