Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Care

Free VA treatment for any physical or mental health condition related to military sexual trauma, without having reported it at the time and regardless of discharge status or length of service.

Also called: MST, military sexual trauma, sexual assault, MST coordinator.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Applies in states and territories.

VA provides free care for physical and mental health conditions related to military sexual trauma: sexual assault or threatening sexual harassment during service. The veteran does not have to have reported the MST at the time, or have other proof, to get care. MST-related care is open to veterans and most former service members, including those with an other than honorable discharge and those who served fewer than two years. Standard length-of-service rules do not apply, and some people can receive MST-related care even when they are not eligible for other VA care. Every VA medical facility has an MST coordinator who can help access care. Disability compensation for a condition related to MST is a separate claim, and VA applies relaxed evidence rules to it under 38 C.F.R. 3.304(f)(5).
