The rules for using VetTOC: what it is and is not, accounts, households, paid plans, and what each of us can expect from the other.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("we" or "us"), which runs VetTOC. They cover this website and the VetTOC apps for iOS and Android.
By using VetTOC, or by creating an account, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use VetTOC.
The Refund Policy is part of these terms for paid plans. The Privacy page says what VetTOC stores about you, and the Cookie Policy lists every cookie it sets.
What VetTOC is
VetTOC is an independent reference catalog and planner of veteran and family benefits: federal, state, territory, county, city and town, and some foreign countries. It also has calculators and estimators, a legislation tracker, a representative finder and a Space-A flight planner.
The whole catalog is free to browse and search, and you never need an account to read it.
Not legal, financial or VA advice
VetTOC is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the Department of Defense. Information is for reference only and is not an eligibility determination. Verify with VA, the relevant state or territory, or an accredited VSO.
VetTOC is not a law firm, a veterans service organization, an accredited claims agent, or a financial adviser, and nothing on it is legal, financial, tax or medical advice. It does not file claims, build evidence, or decide whether you qualify for anything.
A calculator, an estimate, a rating filter or a threshold table is a reference to the published rule, not a decision about you. Only the agency that runs a benefit can decide whether you get it and how much.
VetTOC is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, or any other government agency. For help with a claim, use an accredited veterans service organization, attorney or claims agent.
Accuracy and sources
Every benefit names the official sources it was read from and the date it was last updated. We work to keep the catalog right, but laws, rates and deadlines change, and an entry can be out of date, incomplete, or a summary that leaves out a condition that matters to you.
A place with an empty list, or one marked as still gathering intel, has not been fully researched yet. It does not mean the place has no benefits.
Space-A flights are read from the schedules the passenger terminals publish, and can be late, wrong or canceled. A listed flight is not a seat. Check with the terminal before you travel.
Before you act, especially before a deadline or a money decision, check the linked primary source and the agency that runs the benefit. You can tell us about a mistake with Request update on any benefit.
Accounts
You can make an account with a password, with a link sent to your email, or with Google. Any of them opens the same account. You must be at least [MINIMUM AGE] years old to make one.
Use an email address that is yours. Keep your password, your email and the devices you are signed in on safe: anything done while signed in to your account is treated as done by you. If you think someone else has used it, sign out everywhere from the account page and tell us.
Signing in with Google is also governed by Google's own terms. Google tells VetTOC your verified email address and nothing else.
Households and seats
An account can own a household and invite other people to it by email. An invite is not a seat: it lapses after 14 days, and a seat is made only when someone signed in with the invited address accepts it. Nobody can be put in a household, or given an account, without saying yes.
Everyone with a seat can see what is added to the household, such as its roadmap and saved scenarios, and the owner decides who else can change the roadmap. Only invite people who expect to hear from you, and only add what you are happy for the household to see.
The owner can rename the household, change labels, take seats away and delete it. A member can change their own label and leave at any time.
Once paid plans are charged, a household hangs from its owner's subscription, and members use its paid features through their seats for as long as it is paid for. A plan may limit how many seats a household holds.
Reports you send
You can ask for a benefit to be updated or tell us about one that is missing, with or without an account. A report holds what you write, an optional source link and an optional email address. It is read by a person and is never published as it is.
You give us permission, free of charge and for as long as the catalog runs, to use what a report says to correct and extend the catalog. We decide what changes. Do not put anyone else's personal details, or anything confidential, in a report.
Reports stay after you delete your account, because they are about the catalog, but lose your email address and any link to the account.
Paid plans
Paid plans are not charged yet. Until they are, every signed-in account can use the paid features at no charge. When charging starts, these features will ask you to subscribe, and you are charged only if you choose to. The rest of this section says how it will work then.
Reading the catalog, using every filter and sending reports are free. The Command plan costs $4.99 a month and adds:
- comparing counties side by side
- comparing a move between two places
- bookmarks
- saved places
- the household roadmap
- an offline pack in the apps
- saved calculator scenarios
- the What changed feed and weekly email
- deadline reminders
- the Space-A flight planner
A subscription is paid monthly and renews each month until it is canceled. On the web it is billed by Stripe; in the iOS app by Apple through the App Store; and in the Android app by Google through Google Play. The app stores may show a different price in your currency. You see the price before you pay.
What a plan grants belongs to the account, so it works on the website and in both apps, wherever you paid. One subscription covers a household: its owner pays, and every seat in it gets the plan's features.
If a plan ends, the catalog stays free to read, the paid features lock, and an offline pack in the app stays readable but stops updating. If we raise the price, we will tell you before the new price applies, and you can cancel before it does.
Canceling, failed payments and refunds are covered by the Refund Policy.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the account page. You type your email address back to confirm, and you must have signed in within the last 60 minutes, so that a session left open on a shared computer cannot do it.
Deleting removes the account, every sign-in, and everything saved to it. A household you own goes with every seat and invite in it, and your seats in other people's households are taken out. It cannot be undone.
An account that pays for a subscription that is still running cannot be deleted until the subscription is canceled, so that nobody is billed for an account that no longer exists.
Acceptable use
When you use VetTOC, do not:
- break the law, or help anyone else to;
- send false, misleading or abusive reports, or use reports or invites to send anyone unwanted mail;
- try to get into an account or household that is not yours, or get around a sign-in, limit or check;
- probe, scan or test VetTOC for weaknesses, or overload it, except to report a security problem to us in good faith;
- copy large parts of the catalog by automated means, or republish it as your own or as part of a competing service;
- present VetTOC, or anything from it, as coming from VA, the Department of Defense or any other agency; or
- use VetTOC to sell or advertise services to other people who use it.
Content and ownership
The catalog's summaries, its structure, and VetTOC's design and software are ours or used under license. You may read, print and share pages for your own use and to help others with their benefits.
The laws, regulations and official pages VetTOC links to belong to their publishers. We do not control other sites and are not responsible for what they say.
What you add to your account, such as roadmap items and notes, stays yours. You let us store it and show it to you and, where you put it in a household, to the people in it, only so VetTOC can work.
Services run by others
Some features rely on other companies: Google for sign-in and address suggestions, the U.S. Census Bureau and Open States for finding your representatives, an email delivery service for every email, and, once paid plans are charged, Stripe, Apple and Google for payments. Their own terms apply to what they do.
Changes to VetTOC
We keep improving VetTOC, so features change, and some may be added, moved between plans or removed. We may also pause VetTOC for maintenance or when something outside our control stops it. If we remove a paid feature you rely on, we will tell you, and you can cancel.
Disclaimers
As far as the law allows, VetTOC is provided as it is and as available, without any promise that it is accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose. This does not take away any right that consumer law gives you and that cannot be excluded.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for a benefit not claimed, a deadline missed, or a decision made because of something in the catalog. Our total liability to you for any claim about VetTOC is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to it.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using VetTOC at any time, and delete your account as described above.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people or VetTOC at risk. Where we can, we will tell you why first. If we close an account that pays for a subscription for any other reason, or stop running VetTOC, we refund the unused part of the period already paid for.
The sections on reports, content, disclaimers, liability and governing law still apply after an account ends.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page says when they last changed. If a change matters, we will tell account holders by email before it takes effect. If you keep using VetTOC after that, you accept the new terms; if you do not accept them, cancel any subscription and delete your account.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW JURISDICTION], and its courts hear any dispute about them.
If you are a consumer living in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in its courts.
General
These terms, with the Refund Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about VetTOC. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still do so later. We may transfer these terms to another organization that takes over VetTOC, and we will tell you if we do; your rights under them are not reduced by the transfer.
