Where it applies

Applies in states and territories.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill can help pay tuition and fees, a monthly housing allowance, and books for approved education and training. The percentage VA pays follows the length of qualifying active duty after September 10, 2001. It is not a disability rating. For the 2026-27 academic year (August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027), VA pays in-state tuition and fees in full at a public school, and up to $30,908.34 a year at a private or foreign school. The books stipend is up to $1,000 a year. The monthly housing allowance follows the military housing allowance for an E-5 with dependents at the school's ZIP code. Transfer to a spouse or child, the Yellow Ribbon Program, the Rogers STEM Scholarship, the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapters 30 and 1606), VET TEC 2.0, tutorial assistance, test fee reimbursement and work-study each have their own entry.

Documents the source lists

What the official source lists for an application, and where to get each document. It is a reference read from the source, not a full list of what the office may ask for; check with the office or an accredited representative before you apply. Needed means the source asks for it; Helps means the source calls it optional or says it speeds things up.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
