Indiana $2.75 Hunting and Fishing License for Disabled Veterans

An Indiana resident veteran with any service-connected disability, or a Defense Department disability retirement, can buy a yearly hunting and fishing licence for $2.75 or a ten-year one for $27.50 that still works after moving away. Catastrophically disabled veterans hunt free on four days a year, and residents on military leave hunt and fish without a licence.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The reduced fee licence. IC 14-22-12-1.5 defines a "qualified individual" as an Indiana resident who "has served in the armed forces of the United States" and "has a service connected disability, as evidenced by" VA records or by "disability retirement benefits awarded to the individual under laws administered by the United States Department of Defense". No percentage is set, so a 0 percent service-connected rating qualifies on the words. Each year the veteran may buy the resident fishing and hunting licences, or the combined licence, for $2.75; or every ten years a ten-year licence for $27.50, which "may still be used if the license holder moves out of state". What it covers. The Department of Natural Resources says the licence "covers the hunting of small game as well as fishing, excluding any stamps"; deer, turkey and waterfowl licences and stamps are bought at the ordinary price. How to get it. The first time, send State Form 50833 with proof of the service-connected disability to the DNR Customer Service Center by email, fax or post, or through a county service officer. After DNR adds the status to the licence system, renewals can be bought online at GoOutdoorsIN. Free days for the catastrophically disabled. IC 14-22-11-18 lets DNR designate up to four free hunting days a year for residents who are catastrophically disabled veterans as defined in 38 CFR 17.36(e). For 2026 DNR set September 5 and 6 and November 28 and 29. The veteran hunts without a licence or stamp, accompanied by an adult who need not be licensed but may not carry a firearm or bow. Service members. An Indiana resident on leave from the armed forces may hunt or fish without a licence for the length of the leave, carrying leave orders and an Indiana driver licence or voter card (IC 14-22-11-11). A nonresident on active duty stationed in Indiana may buy resident licences (IC 14-22-11-10).
