VA Tutorial Assistance

Up to $100 a month, and $1,200 over a lifetime, for tutoring in a course a GI Bill student is failing or at risk of failing.

Also called: tutoring, tutorial assistance, VA Form 22-1990t.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Applies in states and territories.

VA pays for individual tutoring when a student using VA education benefits has a deficiency in a subject required for the program. The student must be enrolled half time or more (for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, a rate of pursuit of at least 50%). VA pays up to $100 a month, but no more than the cost of tutoring, to a lifetime maximum of $1,200. Under the Post-9/11 GI Bill and DEA it is not charged against entitlement; under the Montgomery GI Bill, the first $600 is not charged. The student, tutor and school certifying official complete VA Form 22-1990t, monthly or after the tutoring ends.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
