What this version stores

If you request an update or submit a missing benefit, VetTOC stores the text you send, an optional source link, and an optional email. You can leave the email blank.

Accounts

You never need an account to read the catalog. If you make one, VetTOC keeps your email address and the date the account was made, and nothing else about you.

To sign in, VetTOC emails you a link. It keeps the address the link was sent to, and a fingerprint of the link rather than the link itself, until the link expires 15 minutes later. Both are deleted within the hour after that, whether or not an account was made.

For each browser or app that is signed in, VetTOC keeps a fingerprint of its sign-in key, when it signed in, and when it was last used. It does not keep your device, your location, or your network address. A sign-in in a browser ends after 30 days, or after 14 days without use. A sign-in in the app ends after 30 days without use. Either ends at once when you sign out.

Deleting the account from the account page removes it, every sign-in, and anything saved to it. Reports you sent about the catalog stay, without your email address or any link to the account.

Every email VetTOC sends goes through an email delivery service, which receives your address and the message. Open and link tracking are turned off, so every link goes straight to VetTOC.

The weekly What changed email and reminder emails are sent only if you turn them on. VetTOC then keeps those choices and, for each email it sends, what it was for, when it went and the delivery service's id for it, but not what it said. Every one has a link that turns it off without signing in.

The delivery service tells VetTOC when mail to an address bounces for good or is marked as spam. VetTOC then keeps a fingerprint of the address, not the address, and sends it no more of these emails, even after the account is deleted, so a closed mailbox is not mailed again.

Address lookups

Some features take a street address: finding the page for your address from the main page or a place page, finding a county or town on a state page, picking a county when comparing counties or a move, and finding your representatives on the legislation page. VetTOC does not store any of these addresses or write them to a log.

When address suggestions are on, what you type goes to Google Maps to suggest matches. The page and county or town searches then read only the state, county or town from the address you choose, in your browser. If the address names a village rather than a town, its map point, not the address, goes through VetTOC to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder to find the town that holds it. The page search then sends VetTOC only the state, town and county codes to find the page to open. VetTOC keeps neither the map point nor the codes.

The representative search sends the address to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder, which returns your congressional and state legislative districts and a map point. When state legislators are available, that map point, not the address, goes to Open States to find them. The address is not returned, saved, or reused after the lookup.
