Veteran Small Business Certification (VOSB and SDVOSB)
SBA certification that lets a veteran-owned or service-disabled veteran-owned small business compete for federal sole-source and set-aside contracts.
Also called: VetCert, SDVOSB, VOSB, set-aside, Vets First, veteran contracting.
For: Veteran or service member.
Where it applies
Applies in states and territories.
Since January 1, 2023, SBA rather than VA certifies veteran-owned small businesses (VOSB) and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB), under the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021.
A certified SDVOSB can compete for sole-source and set-aside contracts across the federal government. A certified VOSB can compete for set-aside and sole-source contracts at VA under its Vets First program. One or more veterans, or service-disabled veterans for SDVOSB status, must own at least 51% of the business and control its management and daily operations, and the business must be small under SBA's size standard for its industry.
The service-connected disability for SDVOSB status can be any rating, including 0%. Apply through SBA's certification portal.
