Fairfax County

Street address

Start typing a street address. VetTOC reads only the county or town from it and opens its page.

Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Virginia provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Fairfax County Reduced Vehicle Tax Rate for Certain Disabled Veterans

MiscellaneousFairfax County, VA · County

A county rate of $0.01 per $100 of assessed value on one vehicle, for a veteran in the statutory class of limb loss, blindness, or permanent and total disability who is not eligible for the statewide vehicle exemption. Fairfax asks for a 100% permanent and total rating as well, which the statute does not.

County documentation: 100% permanent and total. Fairfax asks for a 100% service-connected, permanent, and total rating and loss or loss of use of a leg, arm, or hand, or blindness. Section 58.1-3506(A)(19) makes limb loss, blindness and a permanent and total certification separate alternatives with no rating floor, so this is recorded rather than enforced.

Fairfax County Tax Relief for Permanent and Total Disability

HousingFairfax County, VA · County

County real estate, vehicle, and renter relief for a resident who is permanently and totally disabled under the county medical test and who is under the income and asset caps. This is not the 100% service-connected exemption.

Permanent and total disability. The applicant, or a spouse who co-owns the home, has to be permanently and totally disabled under the county program, or age 65. A VA rating alone is not the test. The first application needs the disability documentation the form requires.

Fairfax County Veteran Hiring Preference

Education & EmploymentFairfax County, VA · County

Preference for an honorably discharged veteran on an initial Fairfax County job, with additional consideration when VA has fixed a service-connected disability.

Service-connected disability. Any honorably discharged veteran who meets the job requirements gets the initial-hire preference. A service-connected rating adds consideration, and it decides a tie between two veterans.

Fairfax County Veterans Treatment Docket

MiscellaneousFairfax County, VA · County

A court supervision and treatment docket for a justice-involved veteran in Fairfax with a mental health or substance use disorder. It is not a general disability benefit.

Justice-involved veteran. The docket is for a veteran with a pending Fairfax case who meets the clinical, risk, and service rules on the county eligibility sheet. A dishonorable discharge is an exclusion. A disability rating is not the test.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.
