The Fairfax County Veterans Treatment Docket is a specialty court program. The county's eligibility sheet says it serves justice-involved veterans with individualized treatment and supervision, in order to cut recidivism. It is not a tax break, a pension, or a benefit a veteran applies for outside a criminal case.
The sheet requires a DSM-5 mental health or substance use disorder, a risk-and-needs score in the tracks the docket accepts, and eligibility for behavioral health care through VA or the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. A dishonorable discharge is listed among the exclusionary criteria, along with offenses and other bars the sheet names. Entry is through the court, with defense counsel, and the veteran signs a contract.
A disabled veteran who is not in the Fairfax courts has no use for this docket. Virginia Veteran and Family Support is the state program that also works with military-connected people in the justice system, and it is a different entry.
