Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Code section 29.1-302 is a resident license for a veteran with a service-connected disability. It is lifetime and nontransferable. The holder can buy the hunt license, the freshwater fishing license, or both. It does not cover designated waters the Department of Wildlife Resources stocks with trout. Other stamps and permits the department still requires, such as deer, turkey, bear, archery, or muzzleloader, are separate. The statute sets the price from the VA rating: Totally and permanently disabled: no fee. 70% or higher, but not totally and permanently disabled: $50. 50% or higher, and under 70%: $75. 30% or higher, and under 50%: $100. A resident under 30% service-connected is outside this license. DWR takes the application with proof of Virginia residency and VA disability proof. A VA identification card is not enough. The license remains valid if the holder later moves away. A person who is only helping a holder of this license hunt or fish, and is not hunting or fishing themselves, does not need their own hunting or fishing license.
