Choose a level. State is what this state provides everywhere. A county or city page adds its own level. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

State

Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery

Death & Survivor BenefitsWyoming · State

The Wyoming state veterans cemetery at Evansville, near Casper. The burial plot and vault are provided at no cost for an eligible veteran, and family members may be buried there too.

Qualifying service and discharge. Eligibility follows service and a qualifying discharge, with family members eligible on their own terms. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Veterans Home of Wyoming

Health careWyoming · State

A single state home at Buffalo offering assisted living and skilled nursing. Eligibility turns on need as much as service: an honorable discharge, a year of Wyoming residency, and being unable to earn a living or without adequate means of support.

Honorable discharge, a year of Wyoming residency, and a needs test. The gates are an honorable discharge, at least one year of Wyoming residency, and being unable to earn a living or without adequate means of support. That last condition is a needs test rather than a rating test, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Wyoming County Burial Assistance for Indigent Veterans

Death & Survivor BenefitsWyoming · State

Counties provide up to $500 toward preparation and transportation of the body and up to $1,500 toward burial for a veteran without the means to pay. It is small, and it is the difference between a burial and none.

Veteran status and inability to pay. The gates are veteran status and a lack of adequate means to cover the burial. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Wyoming Does Not Tax Military Retired Pay or Any Individual Income

MiscellaneousWyoming · State

Wyoming levies no individual income tax, so military retired pay, Survivor Benefit Plan annuities, VA compensation, and Thrift Savings Plan withdrawals are all untaxed by the state. Nothing to claim and no return to file.

No eligibility test. There is nothing to qualify for. Wyoming has no individual income tax, so no rating, income level, or filing status changes the result. The rating filter never hides this entry.

Wyoming Free Lifetime Hunting and Fishing Licenses for Disabled Veterans

MiscellaneousWyoming · State

A free lifetime bird, small game, and fishing license at a 100% rating or with a Purple Heart, and a free lifetime fishing license at 50%. Lifetime means once, with no annual renewal.

50% for fishing, 100% for bird, small game, and fishing. A 50 percent or greater rating buys a free lifetime fishing license. A 100 percent rating extends that to bird and small game as well. Neither tier covers big game licenses, which are drawn and priced separately.

Wyoming Free Lifetime Veterans Pass for State Parks

MiscellaneousWyoming · State

A free lifetime pass covering both day use and camping at Wyoming state parks, for a veteran rated 50% or more. Free camping is rare, and Wyoming gives it at a comparatively low rating threshold.

Service-connected rating of 50% or more. The free lifetime pass requires a service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or greater, and covers both day use and camping. A veteran below 50 percent pays the ordinary fees.

Wyoming Military Assistance Trust Fund

MiscellaneousWyoming · State

Emergency grants for a Wyoming service member or dependent facing hardship connected to state or federal active duty, including reimbursement for dependent care for up to 39 days a year.

Hardship connected to state or federal active duty. The gate is a financial hardship arising from state or federal active duty service, for a Wyoming service member or dependent. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Wyoming National Guard Educational Assistance

Education & EmploymentWyoming · State

Full resident tuition for two degrees at the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college for a Guard member, with a private institution capped per semester. The benefit can be transferred to a dependent after reenlistment.

Wyoming National Guard membership in good standing. The gates are membership in the Wyoming National Guard, completion of basic training, good standing, and a 2.0 grade point average. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Wyoming Veteran Designation on a Driver License

MiscellaneousWyoming · State

A free VETERAN designation on a Wyoming driver license or identification card. The license expiration is waived for an active duty member on production of a military identification card.

A discharge document. The designation requires a DD-214 or equivalent proof of service. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Wyoming Veteran and Disabled Veteran License Plates

MiscellaneousWyoming · State

A free Disabled Veteran plate at a 50% rating, carrying exemption from registration fees. Purple Heart and Gold Star Family plates are free. A general Veteran plate costs $50.

50% for the free Disabled Veteran plate and fee exemption. The free Disabled Veteran plate and the registration fee exemption require a service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or greater. A veteran below that may buy the general Veteran plate for $50, which carries no fee exemption.

Wyoming Veterans Preference in Public Employment

Education & EmploymentWyoming · State

A 5% scoring advantage for a veteran and 10% for a veteran rated 10% or more disabled. It is a percentage of the score rather than flat points, so it scales with how well the applicant did.

10% or more doubles the advantage. Every qualifying veteran receives a 5 percent scoring advantage. A service-connected disability rated 10 percent or more raises it to 10 percent, which is the lowest tier boundary of any preference in this catalog.

Wyoming Veterans Property Tax Exemption

HousingWyoming · State

$6,000 of assessed value off the primary residence, or applied to motor vehicle registration instead. Needs three years of Wyoming residency plus wartime or campaign service, or a compensable service-connected disability.

A compensable service-connected disability. One qualifying path is certification of a compensable service-connected disability, which means a rating that pays compensation and therefore begins at 10 percent. No higher percentage is required for the $6,000 exemption.

Wyoming Veterans Tuition Benefit

Education & EmploymentWyoming · State

Full tuition at the University of Wyoming or any Wyoming community college for eight semesters within eight years, for a veteran who earned an expeditionary or campaign medal. It reaches surviving spouses and children under 22 as well.

An expeditionary or campaign medal, with Wyoming residency before service. The gates are one year of Wyoming residency before entering active duty, an honorable discharge, and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or other authorized campaign medal. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
