Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Wyoming Statute 19-7-402 establishes the Military Assistance Trust Fund, which makes emergency financial grants to service members and their dependents facing hardship related to state or federal active duty. The fund also reimburses dependent care costs for up to 39 calendar days in a year, which addresses a specific and often unbudgeted problem: a Guard member called up on short notice has to arrange childcare or eldercare before leaving, and the pay change rarely covers it. Eligibility runs through the connection between the hardship and the active duty service rather than through a disability rating or a means test alone. A claim has to show the link. Grant amounts are set administratively and the fund is finite, so this entry does not print a figure. Ask the Wyoming Military Department for the current amounts and for whether funds remain in the current period. There is no disability rating requirement. This is a service member and family program rather than a veterans program in the strict sense, so a veteran long separated from service will generally look elsewhere. For a veteran in financial difficulty, the Wyoming Veterans Commission can point to county assistance, to the federal VA emergency and pension programs, and to the service relief societies, which are separate sources with separate rules. Apply through the Wyoming Military Department. In a state this size the Commission and the Military Department are accessible directly, which is an advantage over the layered county structures larger states use, and a veteran should call rather than trying to work out eligibility from published material.
