Wyoming Free Lifetime Veterans Pass for State Parks

A free lifetime pass covering both day use and camping at Wyoming state parks, for a veteran rated 50% or more. Free camping is rare, and Wyoming gives it at a comparatively low rating threshold.

Also called: state parks, lifetime pass, 50 percent, free camping, day use, historic sites, State Parks and Cultural Resources.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Wyoming State Parks issues a free lifetime Veterans Pass to a veteran with a service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or greater. The pass covers free day use and free camping at Wyoming state parks. Two things make this one of the better park benefits in this catalog. The first is that it covers camping, not only entry. Most states waive the gate fee and still charge for a campsite. Wyoming waives both, which turns a weekend into a genuinely free trip rather than a discounted one. The second is the threshold. Fifty percent is lower than several states set for a comparable benefit, and Wyoming does not require the veteran to be totally disabled to reach it. The pass is lifetime, so it is obtained once. Wyoming's state parks include Boysen, Glendo, Keyhole, Curt Gowdy, and Guernsey among others, along with state historic sites. This is separate from the national parks: Yellowstone and Grand Teton are federal and charge their own entrance fees, though the federal Interagency Access Pass is free and lifetime for a citizen with a permanent disability and covers those, and the America the Beautiful Military Annual Pass is free to current service members. A Wyoming veteran should hold both the state pass and the appropriate federal pass, since neither covers the other's land. Apply through Wyoming State Parks with the VA benefit summary letter showing the rating. A veteran below 50 percent does not qualify for this pass and pays the ordinary day use and camping fees.
