Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Delaware provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Sussex County: Disabled Veterans School Tax Credit

HousingSussex County, DE · County

Sussex County’s Billing Division takes the Disabled Veterans School Tax Credit - up to a full credit towards property taxes excluding Sussex Tech and non-value-based fees - with a statewide April 30 deadline and a clean-hands rule that no application is approved while county taxes and fees are unpaid.

VA 100% permanent and total (including individual unemployability). The credit needs a VA determination of 100% disability compensation for a service-connected, permanent and total disability based on individual unemployability or a 100% disability rating, plus three preceding years of Delaware residence as of July 1.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

VetTOC has not written a veterans service office for Sussex County yet. The state’s service offices below serve it.

Delaware Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Service Officers

Delaware created a cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs in August 2025, but by law it stays a division of the Department of State until the General Assembly approves a transition plan aimed at 2030. Its service officers help with VA claims at no charge, it holds a repository of discharge papers, and the Public Guardian is the VA fiduciary of last resort.
