Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Title 21, section 2718, subsection (g) requires the Division of Motor Vehicles, on satisfactory proof, to designate on a driver licence that the holder is a veteran of the uniformed services. Section 3104 does the same for identification cards. Who qualifies. Anyone who "served in the uniformed services of the United States and was discharged or released from service under conditions other than dishonorable". The uniformed services are the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, any reserve component and the National Guard. Senate Bill 76 with Senate Amendment 1, approved June 24, 2025 and printed as 85 Delaware Laws chapter 36, replaced "United States Armed Forces or of the National Guard" with the uniformed services so that Public Health Service and NOAA officers are included. The federal Army benefits library still describes the designation as available to veterans "who received an honorable discharge"; the statute's test is other than dishonorable, which includes a general discharge and an other than honorable discharge. What proves it. Paragraph (2) lists a DD-214; a DD-256 stating "General Under Honorable Conditions"; an NGB-22; a white Common Access Card or a Defense Department blue or red ID; another state's driver licence showing a veteran designation; PHS Form 1867, the Public Health Service statement of service; or NOAA Form 56-16. What it costs. Nothing extra if added with an initial application, a renewal or a duplicate. A fee of $10 may be charged to add it between renewals. Why it is worth having. Many businesses give veteran discounts on sight of it, and it saves carrying a DD-214.
