Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Delaware has more than thirty military and veteran plate designs. The ones most veterans ask about: The military veteran plate. Title 21, section 2139BB: an honorably discharged veteran of the United States military may have a plate with the letters "MV" on a passenger vehicle or a truck of three-quarter ton or less. The original application is subject to a $15 administrative fee and nothing beyond the ordinary registration fee after that. Only one is issued per applicant. A surviving spouse may transfer it to a vehicle the spouse owns. The test is "honorably discharged" and a general discharge does not meet it on the words. The prisoner of war plate. Section 2137: letters "POW", for a former prisoner of war in "any war, the Korean conflict, the Viet Nam conflict, Operation Desert Storm or other military conflict on foreign soil in which United States armed forces were formally engaged in battle", certified by the Defense Department. A $10 original fee. A surviving spouse may transfer it. The Purple Heart plate. Section 2139B: letters "PH", for a recipient of the Purple Heart with official documentation, for a $10 original fee. The spouse may transfer it after the recipient's death, but must return it within 90 days if the spouse remarries. Others. Plates for Medal of Honor and valor decorations, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, retired military, the Delaware National Guard and reserves, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom veterans, World War II veterans, women's military service and Gold Star families each have their own section between 2139A and 2140L. Each needs proof of the status it names. The disabled veteran plate is in its own entry, because it can double as a disability parking plate.
