Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Title 14, section 159 requires the Department of Education to award a state high school diploma to any veteran who left a Delaware school before graduating in order to serve in the armed forces, did not receive a Delaware diploma or received a GED as a consequence, and was discharged "under honorable conditions". The Department and the Commission of Veterans Affairs set the process jointly, and it must include posthumous awards, so a family can apply for a veteran who has died. The periods are fixed. Subsection (c) limits it to service during World War II, December 7, 1941 through December 11, 1946, and during occupation of defeated territories up to September 8, 1951; the Korean War, June 27, 1950 through January 31, 1955; and Vietnam, May 1, 1961 through April 30, 1975. A veteran who left school to enlist for the Gulf War or after September 11, 2001 is not covered. Those dates for Vietnam start earlier than the federal Vietnam era for most veterans, which begins August 5, 1964. "Under honorable conditions" includes a general discharge. Apply through the Office of Veterans Services.
