Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Union County's governing authority is its sole commissioner - Harold Collins, Commissioner's Office, 65 Courthouse Street, Suite 1, Blairsville (706-439-6000, fax 706-439-6004), with County Manager Tony Hughes and County Clerk Jennifer Mahan - whose monthly meetings moved on the county's September 8, 2026 notice to the third Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Union County Sports Center, 519 Industrial Blvd; the 2025-2026 record carries two veteran items: the National Poppy Day proclamation requested by the American Legion Ira Weaver Post/Unit 121, signed and presented April 30, 2025, and the Board of Elections' February 2025 report that several veterans were interested in becoming poll workers.

No eligibility - a board record. The record documents the sole commissioner’s veteran items in the 2025-2026 window; it grants no individual entitlement.

Union County Tax Commissioner (Lee Knight) and Tax Assessor (Susie Phillips): the homestead route with the State-set amounts

MiscellaneousUnion County, GA · County

The Union County Tax Commissioner - Lee Knight, in office since January 2, 2013, 65 Courthouse Street, Blairsville (706-439-6017, [email protected], uniongatax.com) - and the Tax Assessor's office (Chief Appraiser Susie Phillips, 706-439-6011, 65 Courthouse Street, Suite 4, with appraisers assisted by the GMASS vendor) take the homestead exemption applications, the disabled-veteran exemptions included, with a warranty deed before April 1; neither office's site publishes exemption text, so the O.C.G.A. 48-5-48 and 48-5-52.1 amounts ride on the State entries.

Qualifying disabled veteran or surviving spouse who owns and occupies the home. The exemption follows O.C.G.A. 48-5-48 and 48-5-52.1; the county offices take the application and post no amounts of their own. The rating filter never hides this entry.
