Skilled nursing care in Augusta and Milledgeville for a Georgia war veteran who meets the residency and medical rules. VA pays the daily fee in full at a service-connected rating of 70% or higher, or when the admission is for a service-connected condition.
Also called: nursing home, Augusta, Milledgeville, skilled nursing, Aid and Attendance.
The Department of Veterans Service owns two skilled nursing homes. The Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home is at 1101 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30901, and is operated under an agreement with Augusta University. The Georgia War Veterans Home is at 2249 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, GA 31061. The Milledgeville page describes that home as 248 beds, with skilled nursing, Alzheimer care, and a sub-acute rehabilitation unit. Its admissions office is (478) 445-4295. Augusta admissions are by appointment with that home.
The department's eligibility page requires the veteran to be a current Georgia resident and to have lived in Georgia for the two years immediately before the application, or for five or more of the past 15 years. The veteran has to have served on active duty during a listed period: World War II (December 7, 1941 through December 31, 1946), the post-World War II period (January 1, 1947 through June 26, 1950), Korea (June 27, 1950 through January 31, 1955), the Cold War (January 31, 1955 through August 1, 1990), Vietnam (July 1, 1964 through May 7, 1975), or the Persian Gulf from August 2, 1990 to the present. The discharge has to be under other than dishonorable conditions. VA has to approve the veteran for skilled nursing care. The veteran has to be free of contagious infectious disease and of behavioral and psychiatric problems that the home excludes, and has to not need life support by line-operated mechanical means.
A nominal daily fee is charged. A veteran may apply for the federal Aid and Attendance benefit to offset it. The homes page says VA pays that daily fee in full for a veteran with a service-connected rating of 70% or higher, or whose admission is due to a service-connected condition. The rating filter does not hide the home, because a veteran under 70% can still be admitted and pay the fee.

Georgia residence, wartime service, and VA nursing approval
Admission is residency, a listed period of active duty, a discharge under other than dishonorable conditions, and VA approval for skilled nursing. A 70% rating changes who pays the daily fee. It is not the admission test.
