Georgia Veteran Hunting and Fishing Licenses

A one-time free sportsman license for a Georgia resident discharged on or after July 1, 2005 after 90 days of federal active duty. A permanent and total disability rating qualifies for a discounted three-year license instead.

Also called: hunting license, fishing license, DNR, sportsman, one-time veteran license.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division issues the licenses. The Department of Veterans Service describes three veteran products, and Georgia residence is required for each. A one-time veterans license is free for a Georgia resident who served on active federal duty for 90 or more days and was honorably discharged on or after July 1, 2005. It is a full-privilege sportsman license, valid for one year from issue, and it can be issued only once. A veteran with a permanent and total disability rating from VA, or from another government agency, for a physical or mental impairment can get a three-year disability sportsman license at a discount from the ordinary price. The department tells applicants to buy the three-year license rather than the annual one, because the annual license requires new proof every year. This license cannot be bought or renewed online. The application is mailed with the supporting documents. A veteran whose disability is a mental impairment can get the discounted disability fishing license, not the hunting privileges. An honorably discharged resident veteran age 16 through 49 may buy the adult lifetime sportsman license at a 20% discount. A senior discount lifetime license is available beginning at age 60, and an older-adult lifetime license at age 50. Those age prices are separate from the disability license. The department does not publish a single dollar price for the discounted disability license in its summary, so this entry does not invent one. The one-time license and the lifetime discount do not require a disability rating. The rating filter does not hide this benefit.
