Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Georgia provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Cherokee County Tax Assessor: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption

HousingCherokee County, GA · County

The Cherokee County Tax Assessor's exemption page sets the disabled veteran exemption at $117,014 off assessed value, applying to county and school M&O, requires VA or doctor certification of a 100% service-connected disability on or before January 1 plus proof of an honorable discharge, and takes applications in person in Canton by April 1 of the effective year.

100% service-connected. One path is a 100% rating certified by VA; statutory awards for loss of limbs or sight, and unemployability paid at the 100% rate, are other paths the filter does not test.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

VetTOC has not written a veterans service office for Cherokee County yet. The state’s service offices below serve it.
