Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Jefferson County Tax Assessor: Disability Exemption and Homestead

HousingJefferson County, AL · County

Jefferson County's Tax Assessor, in Birmingham and Bessemer, takes the State's full exemption for a permanently and totally disabled owner between October 1 and December 31. Its FAQ says the exemption depends on income and must be renewed every year, and asks for two proofs of disability without naming a VA letter; section 40-9-21 has no income limit, and from October 1, 2026 a VA permanent and total veteran no longer re-verifies.

Permanent and total disability, no income limit. Alabama uses its own permanent and total test, proved by a VA or Social Security letter or physician forms. The rating filter cannot test it.
