A resident veteran at 40% or more can buy a lifetime hunting license. Annual appreciation licenses are posted at $17.70 from 50% and $3.60 for a 100% service-connected, permanent, and total disability.
Hunting prices depend on which license the veteran buys. All of them require Alabama residency and VA certification of the disability. Outdoor Alabama's resident hunting list is the price board for the annual licenses. The license year runs September 1 through August 31, and the department adjusts fees, so read the current list before paying.
Annual Physically Disabled Military Veteran's Appreciation hunting license: a veteran certified at 50% or more physically disabled. Outdoor Alabama lists it at $17.70. The statute prices it at half the annual resident all-game license, plus the issuance fee.
Annual 100 Percent Disabled Military Veteran's Appreciation hunting license: a veteran certified as 100% service-connected, permanently and totally disabled. The statute sets a $2 license fee plus the issuance fee, subject to adjustment. Outdoor Alabama lists the license at $3.60. A veteran who holds that 100% disabled hunting license can add the nighttime feral swine and coyote license. Outdoor Alabama lists that add-on at $1.10 and says the hunter must already hold a VA or Social Security 100% disabled hunting license. The statute says these veterans pay the issuance fee and not the license fee.
Lifetime hunting license: a resident veteran certified at 40% or more, under Code section 9-11-65.3. The statute's base fees are $60 under age 50 and $30 at age 50 or older. A veteran certified 100% service-connected, permanently and totally disabled, pays $45 under age 50 and $25 at age 50 or older. Those statutory figures can be adjusted. The lifetime license includes wildlife heritage privileges. It is not transferable, and a nonresident cannot buy it.
The annual 50% license does not cover a veteran rated 40% to 49%. That veteran uses the lifetime license if the age and residency rules are met. A rating under 40% does not qualify for these hunting licenses.
