Free admission to Alabama state parks, on days the park is open to the public, for an active-duty service member or an honorably discharged veteran who lives in Alabama.
Also called: state parks, park admission, Parks for Patriots, DD-214, veteran license.
Code section 9-14-8 waives admission for an active-duty service member, and for an honorably discharged veteran, who is an Alabama resident, on days the state park is open to the public. The Department of Veterans Affairs says the resident can prove service with an active or retired military identification card, an Alabama driver license with the veteran designation, or a DD Form 214. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources can accept other identification. Ask the park if a particular card is on that list.
An active or retired service member who does not live in Alabama gets free admission on state and federal holidays, with an active or retired military identification card. That holiday rule is not the everyday resident waiver.
The veteran designation on an Alabama driver license or identification card is available to an honorably discharged veteran who presents a DD Form 214 or a report of separation. County licensing offices can add it. There is no disability rating on this waiver.
National park fee waivers are a federal rule. They are not this state-park waiver.
