Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs keeps veterans service offices in most counties. The officers help veterans, dependents, and survivors file for federal and state benefits earned by honorable service. The help is free. The department lists compensation and pension applications, appeals, survivor death benefits, aid and attendance, housebound benefits, certification of claim documents, military records, discharge upgrades, and special veteran license plates. Officers are accredited to act on claims. Limestone County has its own office in Athens. A veteran can use an office in another county. This is representation and counseling. It is not a payment, and it does not decide the claim.
