Choose a level. State is what this state provides everywhere. A county or city page adds its own level. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

How Missouri Pays for Veterans Homes and Cemeteries

MiscellaneousMissouri · State

The Veterans Commission Capital Improvement Trust Fund is funded by casino admission fees. It sits third in a waterfall out of the gaming commission fund and then takes one hundred percent of the residual, so capital funding for the homes and cemeteries tracks riverboat gambling receipts.

The fund consists of casino money, not general revenue. Section 42.300.1 says the Veterans Commission Capital Improvement Trust Fund consists of money collected under section 313.835, the gaming commission fund.

Missouri Disabled Veteran License Plate

MiscellaneousMissouri · State

Not available for any service-connected disability. The plate needs either a disability of the kind that would have earned a federal automobile grant, or compensation at the total rate. One set is free; a second set pays full fees.

A disability of the kind that would have earned a federal automobile grant. Section 301.071 asks for a service-connected disability of such a nature that it would have entitled the veteran to be awarded an automobile by the United States Federal Government, which points at the impairments in 38 U.S.C. 3901 and 3902: loss or permanent loss of use of a foot or hand, and prescribed permanent impairment of vision of both eyes.

Missouri Hunting and Fishing Permits for Veterans

MiscellaneousMissouri · State

A veteran at 60 percent or a former prisoner of war may hunt and fish without a permit, but not for deer, turkey, bear or elk, and not trapping. The rules sit in the Wildlife Code rather than the statutes, because the Conservation Commission is a constitutional body.

A service-related disability of 60 percent or greater. The Wildlife Code exemption runs at sixty percent for an honorably discharged veteran, resident or nonresident. The figure is regulatory rather than statutory and can be changed by the Conservation Commission without legislation.

No cap, no age test, no income test.

Missouri Procurement Preference for Veteran-Owned Businesses

Education & EmploymentMissouri · State

Missouri Property Tax Credit for a 100 Percent Disabled Veteran

HousingMissouri · State

Outside a narrow exemption for a totally disabled former prisoner of war, Missouri has no veteran property tax exemption. A 100 percent service-connected disabled veteran instead enters the senior citizens circuit breaker without being 65, and is the one claimant whose VA payments are left out of the income test. The caps rose for calendar year 2026 for the first time since 2008.

A veteran who became 100 percent disabled as a result of service. Section 135.010(1) lets a claimant or spouse who is a veteran of any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States or of this state, and who became one hundred percent disabled as a result of that service, claim without reaching age 65.

Missouri Veterans Preference in State Employment

Education & EmploymentMissouri · State

The merit system preference is a tie-breaker and nothing more: it applies only "if all other relevant job-related factors are equal" and names no points. A Missouri National Guard member on the register has the stronger right, because an interview is mandatory.

Preference applies only if all other job-related factors are equal. Section 36.220.1, second sentence. The preference is a tie-breaker; the section names no points, no percentage and no ranking rule.

Missouri Veterans Service Officers

MiscellaneousMissouri · State

Commission staff may not accept or charge anything of value for helping a veteran, and doing so is a class A misdemeanour. The wider service officer network runs on matching grants from casino money rather than on a statutory officer in every county.

Who Counts as a Veteran in Missouri

MiscellaneousMissouri · State

Missouri writes no service test of its own for chapter 42. It adopts whatever the United States Department of Veterans Affairs says, which means the state definition moves when federal rules move, and several benefits then use narrower or wider tests of their own.

For chapter 42, whatever the federal Department of Veterans Affairs says. Section 42.002(5) defines veteran as any person defined as a veteran by the United States Department of Veterans’ Affairs or its successor agency, for sections 42.002 to 42.135 and section 143.1001. Missouri writes no days-of-service test of its own there.
