Loading the county list.

Choose a level. State is what this state provides everywhere. A county or city page adds its own level. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Arizona Disabled Veteran and Purple Heart Hunting and Fishing Licenses

MiscellaneousArizona · State

A free combination hunting and fishing license for a veteran rated 100% permanent and total. A Purple Heart recipient with a year of Arizona residency pays a discounted fee instead.

100% permanent and total for the free license. The free combination license requires a VA letter stating 100 percent disabled, permanent and total. A bare 100 percent rating that is not designated permanent and total may not satisfy the department, so check the wording of the letter.

Arizona In-State Tuition for Veterans Using VA Education Benefits

Education & EmploymentArizona · State

Immediate in-state tuition at an Arizona university or community college for a veteran using VA education benefits after 90 days of active duty, and for any honorably discharged or retired service member who shows intent to stay. There is no time limit after discharge.

VA education benefits after 90 days of active duty, or an honorable discharge. One route is using VA education benefits after a discharge from 90 days or more of active duty; another is any honorable discharge or retirement. Both need evidence of intent to reside in Arizona. No disability rating is required, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Arizona Military Family Relief Fund

MiscellaneousArizona · State

One-time grants of up to $3,000, with a $20,000 lifetime limit, for an Arizona service member or veteran family facing financial hardship connected to military service. Funded by a tax-credit donation rather than an appropriation.

Arizona residency and a hardship connected to military service. The gates are Arizona residency and documentation that the financial hardship arises from military service. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Arizona Military Retired Pay and Active Duty Pay Tax Exemption

MiscellaneousArizona · State

Arizona exempts the full amount of military retired pay from state income tax, with no cap, for tax years from 2021 onward. Active duty pay, National Guard and Reserve pay, and Survivor Benefit Plan annuities are exempt too.

Receipt of uniformed services retired or retainer pay. The exemption turns on the payment being retired or retainer pay of the uniformed services. There is no rating, age, income, or service-length test, so the rating filter never hides this entry.

Arizona National Guard State Tuition Reimbursement

Education & EmploymentArizona · State

Up to $250 per semester hour, capped at $5,250 in a state fiscal year, for a member of the Arizona National Guard. It reimburses rather than pays up front, so the member fronts the cost.

Current membership in the Arizona National Guard. The gate is membership in the Arizona National Guard in good standing. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Arizona Property Tax Exemption for Veterans with Disabilities

HousingArizona · State

The primary residence is fully exempt at a 100% rating, and from tax year 2027 also at individual unemployability, with no cap on value and no income test for veterans. For tax year 2026 the income test may still apply. Below 100% the exemption is about $4,188 scaled by the rating.

100% service-connected for the full exemption. A 100 percent VA disability rating makes the primary residence fully exempt, with no limit on the assessed value. Below 100 percent the exemption is a fixed amount, $4,188 in the statute, multiplied by the disability percentage.

Arizona Purple Heart Tuition Waiver Scholarship

Education & EmploymentArizona · State

A tuition waiver at any Arizona state university or community college for a Purple Heart recipient rated 50% or more, who was an Arizona resident or stationed in Arizona when injured.

Purple Heart with a 50% or greater rating. The waiver requires a Purple Heart citation together with a VA disability rating of 50 percent or more. A Purple Heart recipient rated below 50 percent does not qualify.

Arizona State Parks Discount for Veterans

MiscellaneousArizona · State

Half off the day-use entrance fee for an active duty member or a retired veteran, and free day use for a veteran with a 100% disability rating.

100% rating for free day use. A veteran with a 100 percent disability rating enters without paying the day-use fee. A retired veteran or active duty member below that receives 50 percent off, and a veteran who is neither retired nor rated 100 percent receives no discount.

Arizona State Veteran Homes

Health careArizona · State

Four state veteran homes providing skilled nursing care, at Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, and Yuma. Spouses and Gold Star parents may be admitted alongside honorably discharged veterans.

Honorable discharge and a need for skilled nursing care. The gates are an honorable discharge and a clinical need for skilled nursing care the home can meet. No disability rating is required for admission, though a rating of 70 percent or more generally means VA covers the full cost, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Arizona Tuition Waiver for Survivors of Service Members Killed in the Line of Duty

Death & Survivor BenefitsArizona · State

A tuition waiver at Arizona state universities and community colleges for the unremarried surviving spouse and for children under 30 of a service member killed in the line of duty.

A service member killed in the line of duty. The gate is the death of the service member in the line of duty, with the claimant being an unremarried surviving spouse or a child under 30. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Arizona Vehicle License Tax and Registration Exemption

MiscellaneousArizona · State

One vehicle exempt from the vehicle license tax and registration fee for a 100% disabled veteran, and for a vehicle VA helped buy. Deployed service members get a one-year exemption on up to two vehicles.

100% service-connected for the one-vehicle exemption. The disability path requires a 100 percent service-connected disability and covers one vehicle. A veteran below 100 percent does not qualify on the rating.

Arizona Veteran Designation on a Driver License

MiscellaneousArizona · State

A VETERAN designation available on a driver license, identification card, or commercial license. A license held by a service member stays valid for six months after discharge, and commercial skills tests can be waived.

Proof of service. The designation requires a discharge document or other proof of service. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Arizona Veteran License Plates

MiscellaneousArizona · State

Twenty-six military and veteran plate designs, most carrying an initial and an annual fee. The plate is separate from the vehicle license tax exemption, which is where the real money is.

Proof of service, an award, or a VA rating depending on the design. Each plate design has its own documentation requirement: a discharge document for a branch plate, proof of the award for a decoration plate, and VA documentation for a disability plate. The rating filter does not gate the plates generally.

Arizona Veterans Preference in Public Employment

Education & EmploymentArizona · State

Five points on a merit system examination for the State or any county, city or other political subdivision after more than six months of active duty, and ten points for a veteran with a service-connected disability. A spouse or surviving spouse can hold the five points in some cases.

More than six months of active duty for 5 points, any service-connected rating for 10. Five points require more than six months of active duty and a separation under honorable conditions. Ten points require a service-connected disability, with no minimum percentage named. The rating filter never hides this benefit.

Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemeteries

Death & Survivor BenefitsArizona · State

Three state cemeteries, at Sierra Vista, Marana, and Camp Navajo near Flagstaff. Burial is free for the veteran and covers the plot, liner, marker, and perpetual care, with a fee for a spouse or dependent.

A discharge under honorable conditions, or current service. The gates are membership in the armed forces including the National Guard and reserves, or discharge from active duty under honorable conditions. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
