Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what West Virginia provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Marion County Assessor: the Homestead Exemption (VA Award Letter Accepted) and the Active-Duty Military Exemption

HousingMarion County, WV · County

The Marion County Assessor (Jason Smith, 200 Jackson Street, Fairmont) takes a Veterans Administration award letter stating the applicant is permanently and totally disabled as proof for the $20,000 homestead exemption - new applications July 1 to December 1 - and exempts an active-duty member's personal property on current deployment orders, one vehicle for a West Virginia resident stationed out of state.

Permanently and totally disabled (homestead route). The Assessor takes a VA award letter stating the applicant is permanently and totally disabled as the disability proof for the $20,000 homestead exemption; age 65 is the other route, so the filter does not hide this entry.

Marion County Clerk (Julie Kincaid): DD-214 Recording, No Charge

MiscellaneousMarion County, WV · County

The Marion County Clerk (Julie Kincaid, 219 Adams Street, Fairmont) lists 'DD214 (Military Discharge Record)' among the documents the office records, and the Clerk's fee schedule prints 'No Charge for Service Discharge Record' under Code 59-1-10(a)(5).

Any veteran with a discharge to record. The Clerk records a DD-214 and the fee schedule prints no charge for a service discharge record. The rating filter never hides this entry.

Marion County Commission: the Veteran Proclamations of 2025 and 2026

MiscellaneousMarion County, WV · County

The Marion County Commission (Linda Longstreth, Bobby DeVaul and Ernie VanGilder; 200 Jackson Street, Fairmont) proclaimed Agent Orange Awareness Day (August 6, 2025), Chaplain's Day (February 11, 2026), Women Veteran's Day (June 10, 2026) and Buffalo Soldier Day (August 12, 2026), each accepted by Sgt. David Tucker (Retired), who on March 25, 2026 gave the commissioners a plaque for their support; no benefit was adopted, narrowed or repealed.

No eligibility - a board record. The record documents the commission’s veteran proclamations; it grants no individual entitlement.
