A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services: Veteran Directed Care

Health careSalt Lake County, UT · County

Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services runs the VA's Veteran Directed Care programme locally: a disabled veteran of any age gets a budget for in-home care and hires their own caregivers, with a county case manager. Referral comes through the veteran's VA primary care team.

MiscellaneousSalt Lake County, UT · County

Salt Lake County Animal Services, the only municipal shelter in Utah partnered with Pets for Patriots, waives the adoption fee for veterans, active-duty members and their families who are members of the charity, for its harder-to-place dogs and cats.

A veteran, service member or family member who joins Pets for Patriots. Membership in the charity is the gate. No rating is needed.

Salt Lake County Treasurer: Veteran with a Disability Exemption

HousingSalt Lake County, UT · County

Salt Lake County's Treasurer takes Utah's veteran disability exemption by September 1: the rating percentage of $535,459 of taxable value in 2026, from $53,546 at 10 percent to the whole limit at 100. It can also cut vehicle registration through a car slip. The County Council grants late and earlier-year claims at most meetings. The county's page and form leave out that VA's unemployability rating counts as 100 percent.

A rating of 10 percent or more, in proportion. Section 59-2a-501(2): the percentage of disability times the adjusted taxable value limit, nothing below 10 percent. Recorded rather than enforced because a survivor route needs no rating of the claimant.

Third District Veterans Court (Salt Lake County)

MiscellaneousSalt Lake County, UT · County

The Third District Court runs a veterans court in Salt Lake City, at least 18 months long and usually 20 to 24, with VA treatment, testing and graduated sanctions. The county's public defender describes it as for honorably discharged veterans; the Utah statute's test is eligibility for VA health care, which can reach a veteran with a worse discharge.

A veteran VA treats, charged in the Third District. The statute asks for VA health care eligibility, not a particular discharge. No rating is needed.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

VetTOC has not written a veterans service office for Salt Lake County yet. The state’s service offices below serve it.

Utah Rules on Who May Be Paid to Help With a VA Claim

Anyone offering to help a Utah veteran apply for VA benefits must be VA-accredited and must hand you a signed disclosure form, on a state-approved template, stating there is no charge for help with an initial application. Charging before a notice of disagreement is filed is prohibited, so are referral fees and guarantees, and the Division of Consumer Protection enforces it under the consumer sales practices act.
