Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Iowa provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

MiscellaneousMuscatine County, IA · County

Muscatine County’s Board of Supervisors in 2026 wrote to oppose Senate Study Bill 3079’s restructuring of Iowa’s county veteran services, heard the director’s plan to recover federal repayment on veteran cremations, corrected a disabled veteran’s homestead credit processed wrongly, and filled the Veterans Affairs Commission; no benefit was narrowed or repealed.

No eligibility - a board record. The record documents the county’s veteran actions; it grants no individual entitlement.

Muscatine County Recorder and Assessor: DD-214 Copies, the Military Exemption and the Disabled Veteran Credit

HousingMuscatine County, IA · County

The Muscatine County Recorder (414 E Third St., Suite 103, Muscatine) keeps veterans’ discharge papers and gives copies only to the veteran or immediate family on its application; the Assessor takes the military property tax exemption and the disabled veteran homestead credit (with the homestead form 54-028), both filed by July 1.

A veteran with a DD-214. Discharge copies and the military exemption turn on the discharge and service, not a rating; the disabled veteran credit follows the State’s rating test. File by July 1.

    Iowa County Veterans Service Offices

All 99 counties must run a veteran affairs office in a county building, staffed a minimum number of hours a week by an accredited officer whose services are free by statute, and a county cannot fold the function into another agency. The state pays each county $10,000 a year for it and $3,000 for national training, and withholds the $10,000 from a county that misses its hours.

Iowa Makes Charging for Claim Help Unlawful

Iowa chapter 546B makes it a consumer fraud violation to take compensation for advising or assisting with a veterans benefit matter except as federal law permits, to take a referral fee for sending a veteran to an accredited representative, or to guarantee a benefit level. Anyone advertising a veterans benefits seminar must read out and print a specific disclaimer.
