A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Knox County Government Veterans Hiring Preference

Education & EmploymentKnox County, TN · County

Knox County Code 2-768 guarantees an honorably discharged veteran on the list of eligible applicants an interview for a county job or promotion, and gives the veteran the job when the veteran and another candidate are equally qualified. Claim it with proof of service on the application, or it is waived.

Honorably discharged, or reserve and Guard with more than 30 days of active federal service. Code 2-768 defines a veteran as honorably discharged from the armed forces, or a reserve or Guard member who performed more than 30 days of active federal service. Proof must come with the application.

Knox County Trustee: Disabled Veteran Property Tax Relief

HousingKnox County, TN · County

Knox County's Trustee takes applications for the state's disabled veteran property tax relief, worth up to $444 against 2026 county taxes. The county adds no match. The Trustee's page asks for an honorable discharge and a permanent and total rating, which is narrower than the law: only a dishonorable discharge bars relief, and two other routes need no rating.

Permanent and total, as VA determines it. The state relief the Trustee administers. The rating route in 67-5-704(b)(3) asks for service-connected permanent and total disability as determined by VA, which a veteran paid at the total rate through unemployability that VA has found permanent also holds. It is recorded rather than enforced because the paraplegia, blindness and loss-of-limbs route and the prisoner of war route need no rating at all.

Knox County Veterans Treatment Court

MiscellaneousKnox County, TN · County

Knox County's Veterans Treatment Court is a veterans track of the Knox Recovery Court, open since December 2013, for veterans with a Knox County charge and a substance use or mental health diagnosis. Violent offenses are excluded. It takes about 15 to 18 months and costs a one-time $300 fee plus drug screens.

A veteran with a Knox County charge and a treatment need, not violent. Adults with a current Knox County charge and a substance use or mental health diagnosis, entering voluntarily. Charges or past convictions involving a weapon, force, death or serious injury, or a prior violent felony, exclude.

Knox County Wheel Tax: Disabled Veteran, Active-Duty and Low-Income Exemptions

MiscellaneousKnox County, TN · County

Knox County's wheel tax is $36 a year. A veteran rated one hundred percent permanent and total, or a former prisoner of war, is exempt from all of it, and so is a service member on full-time active duty. A veteran VA certifies as totally disabled whose household income is $21,210 or less is exempt from $30 of it.

One hundred percent permanent and total, service-connected. Section 5-8-102 exempts a veteran with one hundred percent permanent total disability from a service-connected cause, as VA determines it. It is recorded rather than enforced because a former prisoner of war, and a veteran whose vehicle came with a VA adapted-vehicle grant under 38 U.S.C. 3901, are exempt at any rating.
