Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Nebraska provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Washington County (Nebraska) Soldiers and Sailors Fund

MiscellaneousWashington County, NE · County

Washington County pays county veterans aid under section 80-102 from a Soldiers/Sailors fund filled by transfers from its inheritance tax fund rather than a levy: $3,000 paid in 2024-2025, $3,800 in 2025-2026 and $4,044 budgeted for 2026-2027.

Veteran, spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. Section 80-102 as amended in 2024: honorable or general service, a year in Nebraska and six months in Washington County, and need the committee assesses. No rating is required.

Washington County (Nebraska) Veterans Service Office

MiscellaneousWashington County, NE · County

Washington County’s Veterans Service Office in the Blair courthouse, under Veterans Service Officer Ed Lautrup, runs a DAV transport vehicle that carries about twelve veterans a month, replaced in 2026 with a Ford Explorer bought with a $45,000 Walter Scott Family Foundation grant.

Any Washington County veteran or dependent. Claims help and DAV rides need no rating; the rating filter never hides this entry.

Washington County (Nebraska): Refunds for Veterans Who Missed the Vehicle Tax Exemption

MiscellaneousWashington County, NE · County

Washington County’s Board of Equalization refunded a disabled veteran’s 2026 motor vehicle tax on October 13, 2026 because the State’s new exemption had not been claimed in time, and the Board of Supervisors asked the County Attorney to draft a resolution on refunds and time limits for others in the same position.

A veteran who qualifies for the State vehicle exemption and paid the tax in 2026. The State exemption reaches any veteran with a VA-recognized service-connected disability, including 0 percent, or VA-recognized blindness, discharged honorable; the Board decides each refund. The rating filter cannot test the filing history.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.
