Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Nebraska provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Knox County Veterans Service Office

MiscellaneousKnox County, NE · County

Knox County’s Veterans Service Office in Center, under Veterans Service Officer Kelly Hanvey, helps veterans with VA benefits and medical centre eligibility, registers DD-214s, places grave flag holders and orders Presidential Memorial Certificates; in July 2026 the office brought eighteen of the county’s twenty-two Korean War veterans together at Creighton to be honoured by the State’s director.

Any Knox County veteran, dependent or survivor. Claims help, DD-214 registration, flag holders and grave registration need no rating; the rating filter never hides this entry.

Knox County Vet’s Aid Fund

MiscellaneousKnox County, NE · County

Knox County’s section 80-102 Vet’s Aid fund paid $3,000 of emergency relief in 2024-2025, and the Board moved $3,000 from the general fund in September 2025 to bring it back to $4,500 rather than levy a tax; the county’s page still prints the wartime-era and honorable-only test that LB1300 removed.

Veteran, spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. Section 80-102 as amended in 2024: honorable or general service, a year in Nebraska and six months in Knox County, and need the committee assesses; the county page’s wartime test no longer applies. No rating is required.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

Every county runs its own veterans relief fund off a dedicated levy, decided locally by the county veterans service committee. A refusal from the state fund is not a refusal from this one.
