Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Nebraska provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Garfield County (Nebraska) Veterans Aid

MiscellaneousGarfield County, NE · County

Garfield County’s page describes a county veterans aid fund for emergencies but still asks for wartime service and an honorable discharge, tests the 2024 amendment removed; its filed 2025-2026 budget carries no veterans aid fund at all, so ask the Board and any county veterans service officer about county help and the State’s aid fund.

Veteran, spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. Section 80-102 as amended in 2024: honorable or general service, a year in Nebraska and six months in Garfield County, and need the committee assesses; the county page’s wartime test no longer applies. No rating is required.

Garfield County (Nebraska) Veterans Service Office

MiscellaneousGarfield County, NE · County

Garfield County’s one-day-a-week Veterans Service Office in Burwell has been without an officer since Tim Rowse’s resignation took effect on June 30, 2026, after 18 years; the Board has the appointment on its October 2026 agendas, and until then the County Clerk is the contact. The office places grave flag holders, registers DD-214s and gets the VA’s homestead letter for the Assessor.

Any Garfield County veteran or dependent. Claims help, grave flag holders and homestead help need no rating; the rating filter never hides this entry.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

    Nebraska County Veterans Aid Fund

Every county runs its own veterans relief fund off a dedicated levy, decided locally by the county veterans service committee. A refusal from the state fund is not a refusal from this one.
