Custer County

Street address

Start typing a street address. VetTOC reads only the county or town from it and opens its page.

Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Nebraska provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Custer County’s Veterans Service Office in the courthouse West Annex in Broken Bow, under Veterans Service Officer Emory Haynes, helps veterans with VA benefits, registers DD-214s, places grave flag holders and orders Presidential Memorial Certificates, and also serves Blaine and Loup Counties; in April 2026 the officer and a veteran talked the Board out of moving the office to the basement.

Any veteran or dependent in Custer, Blaine or Loup County. Claims help, DD-214 registration, flag holders and grave registration need no rating; the rating filter never hides this entry.

MiscellaneousCuster County, NE · County

Custer County’s section 80-102 Veteran’s Aid fund had grown on interest to $105,422.58 by July 2025 without paying any aid in two years, and the whole sum is budgeted for 2025-2026; in April 2026 the Board paid $5,000 from it to a "Custer County Veterans Aid Fund" account, and the county’s page still prints the wartime test that LB1300 removed.

Veteran, spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. Section 80-102 as amended in 2024: honorable or general service, a year in Nebraska and six months in Custer County, and need the committee assesses; the county page’s wartime test no longer applies. No rating is required.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

Every county runs its own veterans relief fund off a dedicated levy, decided locally by the county veterans service committee. A refusal from the state fund is not a refusal from this one.
