Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Hawaii provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Hawaii County: Real Property Tax Exemption for Homes of 100 Percent Disabled or Unemployable Veterans

HousingHawaii County, HI · County

Hawaii County exempts the home of a veteran 100 percent disabled or 100 percent unemployable from on-duty injuries from its real property tax, except half the minimum tax, under County Code 19-73; the unremarried widow or widower keeps it. VA proof stands in for the physician's certificate.

100 percent disabled or 100 percent unemployable. Section 19-73 asks for a veteran 100 percent disabled or 100 percent unemployable from injuries received on duty, and lasts only while that status holds. A 100% schedular rating or TDIU meets it on VA proof.

Hawaii County: Vehicle Weight Tax and Registration Fee Exemption for Totally Disabled Veterans

MiscellaneousHawaii County, HI · County

A veteran totally disabled by injuries received on duty can have one noncommercial vehicle exempted from Hawaii County's motor vehicle weight tax, including the $12 minimum, and from the County's registration-related fees, on VA proof of total service-connected disability (County Code 24-17(d) and 24-19(k)).

Total service-connected disability. The code asks for proof of total service-related disability from VA. A 100% rating, or TDIU paid at the 100 percent rate, is the usual proof; it is recorded rather than enforced.

Third Circuit (Hawaii Island) Veterans Treatment Court

MiscellaneousHawaii County, HI · County

The Hawaii State Judiciary's Veterans Treatment Court launched in the Third Circuit, Hawaii County, in 2014, a year after Honolulu's: a supervised programme of treatment, testing and volunteer veteran mentors for veterans facing charges. The Judiciary names one coordinator, Adam Nelson, 808-441-8914.

Justice-involved veteran. For a veteran with a pending case who is referred and accepted. A disability rating is not the test.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

VetTOC has not written a veterans service office for Hawaii County yet.
