Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what California provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Ventura County Assessor: Disabled Veterans' Exemption

HousingVentura County, CA · County

The Ventura County Assessor names the unemployability route and accepts a letter from the branch of service, but asks for an honorable discharge, and asks a surviving spouse for a letter that the veteran's death was service-connected, which Revenue and Taxation Code 205.5 does not require when the veteran already qualified.

100% or compensated at 100% for unemployability. The State exemption needs a 100% rating, permanent or not, compensation at 100% for unemployability, blindness in both eyes, or loss of the use of two or more limbs.

Ventura County Business Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans

MiscellaneousVentura County, CA · County

The unincorporated county's business tax exempts only an honorably discharged veteran with a service-connected disability who cannot earn a living by manual labor, with a military surgeon's certificate. State law exempts any veteran discharged under honorable conditions who peddles goods the veteran owns.

Disabled veteran under the ordinance; any veteran under State law. The ordinance needs a service-connected disability that prevents manual labor. Section 16102 needs only a discharge under honorable conditions.

Ventura County Civil Service Preferential Credit for Veterans

Education & EmploymentVentura County, CA · County

Five percent of the maximum possible grade is added to a veteran's score on any competitive county civil service examination. It does not apply to promotional examinations, and there is no extra credit for a disability.

Veteran under Government Code 18540.4. Service in a national emergency or expedition and a discharge other than dishonorable. No rating is needed, and a rating adds nothing.

The Superior Court's Veterans Intervention Program takes, on a guilty or no contest plea, veterans the court describes as honorably discharged with combat-related psychological injuries or substance abuse. Penal Code 1001.80 and 1170.9 ask about neither the discharge nor combat. A Stand Down Court each July clears minor cases for homeless veterans.
