Confirm with the assessor

Every figure on this page carries the day it was read and the source it was read from. State law sets a statutory figure for each exemption, and the town council may adopt, raise, adjust or turn it into a tax credit by ordinance, so the amount on a bill can differ from both. Confirm it with the assessor before you rely on it. A figure marked for checking has had a bill on its statute move since it was read.

Choose a level. Town is what this town grants itself, under state law. State is what Connecticut provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Cheshire Additional Veterans’ Exemption

HousingTown of Cheshire, CT · Town

Cheshire’s Code § 17-13 gives a $10,000 additional exemption to a wartime veteran with income of $54,800 single or $61,500 married and the same to a surviving spouse, and § 17-7 exempts a specially equipped vehicle in full.

  • Local additional exemption, as Cheshire Code § 17-13 sets it: Up to $10,000 off assessment for a 12-81(19) veteran with income up to $54,800 single or $61,500 married, and for a surviving spouse under 12-81(22) with income up to $51,500 (read )
  • Specially equipped vehicle, as Cheshire Code § 17-7 sets it: 100% of the assessed value of one motor vehicle specially equipped for a disabled veteran (read )
  • 100% disability option under 12-81g(b), as OLR’s 2023 survey reports it: Reported adopted: three times the 12-81(20) exemption for income up to $21,000 single or $24,000 married (read )

Wartime service or a VA rating, set by state law. The exemptions rest on C.G.S. 12-81(19) to (26): 90 days of wartime service with a qualifying discharge filed with the town clerk, or a VA disability rating. Amounts above the base turn on rating and income. The rating filter does not hide this entry.
