Confirm with the assessor

Every figure on this page carries the day it was read and the source it was read from. State law sets a statutory figure for each exemption, and the city council may adopt, raise, adjust or turn it into a tax credit by ordinance, so the amount on a bill can differ from both. Confirm it with the assessor before you rely on it. A figure marked for checking has had a bill on its statute move since it was read.

Choose a level. City is what this city grants itself, under state law. State is what Connecticut provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Bridgeport Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

HousingCity of Bridgeport, CT · City

Bridgeport’s Tax Assessor administers the state veterans’ exemptions and publishes their forms but no amounts. Its code ratifies an additional income-based veterans’ exemption without setting one, and the city told OLR in 2023 it offered no municipal option.

  • Permanent and total rating, as Bridgeport’s form D-2 states it: The veteran’s share of the dwelling, or one motor vehicle, claimed by January 1 each year (read )
  • Local additional exemption, as Bridgeport’s Code § 3.16.050 ratifies it: Ratified without an amount or an income limit (read )

Wartime service or a VA rating, set by state law. The exemptions rest on C.G.S. 12-81(19) to (26): 90 days of wartime service with a qualifying discharge filed with the town clerk, or a VA disability rating. Amounts above the base turn on rating and income. The rating filter does not hide this entry.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.
