Bridgeport Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Bridgeport’s Tax Assessor administers the state veterans’ exemptions and publishes their forms but no amounts. Its code ratifies an additional income-based veterans’ exemption without setting one, and the city told OLR in 2023 it offered no municipal option.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Bridgeport.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Tax Assessor’s forms page lists the state additional veterans’ exemption application, OPM form M-59a, filed from February 1 to October 1 and every other year, and form D-2 (revised October 1, 2025) for a veteran rated permanently and totally disabled at 100 percent, due by January 1 each year, for the dwelling exemption under C.G.S. 12-81(83). The office’s pages print no exemption amounts or income limits. Code § 3.16.050 has the Common Council “approve, ratify and confirm” Public Act 82-318, which it describes as enabling an additional exemption for veterans who meet income requirements. That act is the origin of 12-81f, the local option. The section names no amount and no income limit, and the city told OLR’s 2023 survey that it offered none of the municipal options. Ask the assessor whether any local exemption is granted.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
