Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what New York provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

MiscellaneousOrleans County, NY · County

The Orleans County Clerk (Nadine P. Hanlon, Courthouse Square, 3 South Main Street, Albion, 585-589-5334) files 'military discharges' among the county's recorded documents; in 2025 the Clerk and the Veterans Service Agency were designing a joint Thank a Veteran card.

Orleans County Cold War Veterans Exemption (Local Law No. 4 of 2008, without the ten-year limit since 2017)

HousingOrleans County, NY · County

Orleans County's Local Law No. 4 of 2008 gives a Cold War veteran's home a county-tax exemption of ten percent of assessed value, capped at $4,000 (times the equalization rate), plus, for a service-connected disability, the assessed value times fifty percent of the rating, capped at $20,000; Local Law No. 6 of 2017 keeps it for as long as the owner qualifies, without the ten-year limit, from the March 1, 2018 taxable status date. The Legislature's committee tabled the new 100% permanent and total veterans exemption in October 2026.

Service-connected disability (the added part). A Cold War veteran with a service-connected rating adds the assessed value times half the rating, up to $20,000; the 10% part needs no rating, so the filter does not hide this entry.

New York County and City Veterans' Service Agencies

Every New York county outside New York City must run a county veterans' service agency, led by a director who must be a veteran and VA-accredited, to help veterans and families with federal, State and local benefits at no cost. A city may run its own, and New York City does.
