Cook County

Street address

Start typing a street address. VetTOC reads only the county or town from it and opens its page.

Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Illinois provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

HousingCook County, IL · County

How the Cook County Assessor runs the State exemption: $2,500 or $5,000 off the equalized assessed value at 30% or 50%, and the first $250,000 at 70%, renewed every year except for a 100% permanent and total veteran. First-time applicants need a DD-214 certified by the Cook County Clerk or the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, and the Assessor's page contradicts itself on renewal.

    Illinois County Veterans Assistance Commissions

In a county with two or more veterans organizations, those posts can form a Veterans Assistance Commission that the county must house and fund, which pays "just and necessary" assistance to veterans with an honorable or general discharge and their families, and to families of deceased veterans, from a county levy, the general fund or State money.
