Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what California provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

OC Animal Care: Free Pet Adoption for Veterans

MiscellaneousOrange County, CA · County

OC Animal Care waives the adoption fee for a veteran with a VETERAN-marked California licence or ID, one animal every six months. The county's release calls the State law permissive and the shelter "participating"; Food and Agricultural Code 30505 and 31751.4 make the waiver mandatory.

VETERAN on a California licence or ID. The only proof is a California driver licence or ID marked VETERAN. No rating is needed.

OC Parks: Free Annual Parking Pass for Distinguished Veterans

MiscellaneousOrange County, CA · County

OC Parks gives a Distinguished Veteran (a 50% or higher service-connected rating, a former prisoner of war, or a Medal of Honor recipient) its All County Parks and Beaches annual parking pass free; others pay $80, or $50 at 60 or with a disability.

50% service-connected, or former POW or Medal of Honor. A 50% or higher service-connected rating qualifies; a former prisoner of war or Medal of Honor recipient qualifies with no rating.

Orange County Assessor: Disabled Veterans' Exemption

HousingOrange County, CA · County

The Orange County Assessor's page gives the disabled veterans' exemption as $100,000 and $150,000 "adjusted annually" without the current figures ($180,671 and $271,009 for 2026), describes the rating test only as "100% disabled" with no mention of unemployability, and says nothing of the larger exemption Senate Bill 296 gives from the 2027 lien date.

100% or compensated at 100% for unemployability. The State exemption needs a 100% rating, permanent or not, compensation at 100% for unemployability, blindness in both eyes, or loss of the use of two or more limbs.

Orange County Superior Court: Veterans Treatment Court and Military Diversion

MiscellaneousOrange County, CA · County

Orange County's Veterans Treatment Court, open since 2008, is a five-phase programme of at least 18 months, and the court runs pre-plea military diversion in Department C46. The court's military diversion page still says Penal Code 1001.80 applies only to misdemeanors; since January 1, 2025 it reaches most felonies too.

Current or former member with a service-related condition. Diversion needs a condition resulting from service; the treatment court treats veterans with or without VA eligibility. No rating is needed.
