Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Alaska provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Northwest Arctic Borough: Veterans’ Preference for Appointment and Employment

Education & EmploymentNorthwest Arctic Borough, AK · County

In every Northwest Arctic Borough department and on all borough public works, veterans are preferred for appointment and employment. A veteran here is anyone honorably discharged after 181 days or more of active service, or after six years in the Alaska Territorial Guard or Alaska National Guard, or a current Guard member credited with two years.

Honorably discharged veterans and qualifying Alaska Guard members. The preference turns on service and discharge, not a rating, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

VetTOC has not written a veterans service office for Northwest Arctic Borough yet. The state’s service offices below serve it.
