Choose a level. County is what this county sets or runs itself. State is what Alaska provides everywhere, including here. Federal is always last.

Show FiltersHide Filters

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. No disability needed keeps only the benefits a living veteran can use without any service-connected disability rating: one that needs a rating or a disability, or may, stays off, and so does one only a surviving spouse or other family member can use. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

Applications go to the Assessing Division in Utqiagvik by January 15. A separate $20,000 owner-occupied exemption and a low-income tax relief grant can add to it.

50 percent or more service-connected. NSBMC 3.25.060(E) adopts the statute’s definition in AS 29.45.030(i): a disability rated 50 percent or more.

North Slope Borough: Veterans’ Preference in Borough Employment

Education & EmploymentNorth Slope Borough, AK · County

The North Slope Borough’s personnel rules must give a veteran of the First World War, the Second World War, Korea or the Vietnam era (to November 7, 1975) employment preference, with five points added to a passing merit-exam grade, ten for a veteran VA rates at least 10 percent disabled, and preference to stay on when a position is cut and qualifications are equal.

Veterans of the listed service periods; ten points at a 10 percent VA rating. The preference turns on service between 1917 and 1975 and an honorable discharge; the ten-point step needs a 10 percent rating, which the rating filter does not test, so it never hides this benefit.

Free help with a VA claim

A county veterans service officer, a town veterans’ agent or a state service office helps you file VA claims for free, most of them through staff VA has accredited. VA does not let anyone charge you for help filing an initial claim.

VetTOC has not written a veterans service office for North Slope Borough yet. The state’s service offices below serve it.
