First-time applicants need a DD-214 certified by the Cook County Clerk or the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, and the Assessor's page contradicts itself on renewal.

Permanent and total service-connected disability. The rating path is VA's certification of a total and permanent service-connected disability. How Cumberland County runs the State's $45,000 disabled veteran homestead exclusion: form AV-9 with a certified NCDVA-9, filed in person or by mail by June 1. The tax page lists only "honorably discharged" veterans and gives no late filing route; the county veterans office certifies a surviving spouse on a Dependency and Indemnity Compensation award.
Permanent and total service-connected disability. The rating path is VA's certification of a permanent and total service-connected disability, as of January 1.
