Cromwell Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Cromwell’s clerk records a DD-214 by September 30, its own equipped-vehicle application cites 12-81c and a local ordinance chapter 211 article IV, and OLR’s 2023 survey records the 12-81kk primary-residence option; the town’s eCode360 code stayed behind its Cloudflare challenge.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Cromwell.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town Clerk’s veterans information page says a veteran must file the original DD-214, or a certified copy previously filed with another town, in the clerk’s office by September 30 to receive credit on the following July’s bill, at no fee. The wartime exemption is $1,000 of assessed value under C.G.S. 12-81(19), with the 12-81g(a) additional exemption of twice that for income under the 12-81l limit, $46,300 single and $56,500 married for the 2026 grand list. The assessor’s “Application for Tax Exemption for Retrofitted Handicapped Vehicles”, revised from a 2004 form, requires annual filing on or before October 31 and cites “CGS §12-81c & Local Ordinance Chapter 211 Article IV” for the exemption; no text of chapter 211 was readable, as the town’s code is on eCode360, which stayed behind its Cloudflare challenge (dubiousenvelope/vettoc issue 168). OLR’s 2023 survey lists Cromwell among the towns offering the 12-81kk primary-residence exemption, 10 percent of the assessed value of the dwelling of a veteran with federal adjusted gross income of $50,100 or less, and among those exempting a specially equipped vehicle; the assessor’s page prints no veterans’ amounts. Ask the assessor.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
