Rhode Island residence at enlistment and six months of service. Section 30-22-2 requires the merchant marine member to have been a legal resident of Rhode Island at the date of enlistment and to have served at least six months, with an exception where the member died before completing six months. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
No annual registration fee and no driver license fee, plus a Disabled Veteran plate, on four alternative gates: amputation, loss of use of a limb, a VA vehicle grant, or a 100 percent rating or individual unemployability.
Individual unemployability, as an express alternative. The statute accepts VA documentation that the veteran is considered individually unemployable due to a service-connected disability as an equal alternative to a combined rating of one hundred percent. A veteran paid at the total rate through unemployability qualifies on the statute rather than on a policy.
A free continuing license for a 100 percent disabled veteran, at the licensing authority’s discretion, once applied for and never renewed. A serving member’s existing license runs six months past discharge, and members buy at resident rates.
A 100 percent disabled veteran. The free continuing license goes to a person who was part of the armed forces and is now a one hundred percent disabled veteran, or to any person who is one hundred percent permanently disabled. Unlike 31-6-8, the section does not name individual unemployability, so a veteran paid at the total rate through unemployability should ask the department rather than assume either answer.
