Richardson County Veteran’s Aid Fund

Richardson County’s section 80-102 Veteran’s Aid fund, about $3,800 with no levy for 2026-2027, moved $2,065 to its aid bank account in 2025-2026 - $1,000 of it a memorial gift from the family of the county’s former officer - and in September 2026 the Board set up a $1,000 Veterans Aid petty cash account; the county’s page still prints the wartime-era test LB1300 removed.

What the page says. The County Benefits page calls the CVA fund "a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available", for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental and surgical items, applied for through the office; the veteran "must demonstrate an 'inability'" to pay. The test it prints is out of date. The page limits the fund to veterans who "received an Honorable Discharge, and served during one of the defined 'wartime eras'". LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime-service test from section 80-102, which now reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. A peacetime veteran, or one with a general discharge, should apply anyway. What the fund holds. Fund 1900, Veteran's Aid, levies nothing for 2026-2027. It held $2,563.03 on July 1, 2024, paid $311.00 to the aid bank account in 2024-2025 and held $3,488.25 a year later. In 2025-2026 it took in $2,265.00 of contributions and donations - including a $1,000 memorial donation from the family of Mona Godemann, the county's officer until 2025, received on March 18, 2026 - and transferred $2,065.00 to the Veterans Aid bank account ($525.00 on November 19, 2025, $540.00 on February 4, 2026 and $1,000.00 on March 18, 2026), holding $3,814.19 on July 1, 2026. The adopted 2026-2027 budget sets $3,850.00 for the aid bank account, and a further $555.09 was transferred on September 30, 2026. The account. On September 23, 2026 the Board adopted Resolution 2026-2027-10 establishing "the petty cash/expense account for the Richardson County Veterans Aid Account" under section 80-102, and the budget message lists a $1,000.00 Veterans Service Aid Account among the county's petty cash funds. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, 402-245-3722; see the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
